Florida Local Food Summit
This year’s theme is “Authenticity in our Food System.”

Florida Organic Growers, East End Market, Local Roots Distribution and various organizations statewide have partnered to host the third annual Florida Local Food Summit, dinner and Growers Market slated for Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10 in Orlando.

Prior to the Summit, September 6-8 will feature on-farm workshops throughout the state. This year’s theme is “Authenticity in our Food System.”

Taking place at East End Market, 3201 Corrine Drive in Orlando and other locations around the market, the Summit will gather the state's top food and farming entrepreneurs, policy makers, chefs, foodies and local food fans to grow Florida’s local food movement through both introductory and advanced coursework, beautiful farm-to-table meals and hands-on educational workshops.

The keynote speaker for the Summit is Will Harris of White Oak Pastures in Bluffton, Georgia. White Oak Pastures has been in operation since 1866 (5 generations) and is known for its environmentally sustainable and high animal welfare farming system. Harris’ inspiring talk will share how he converted his family farm back to the vertically integrated and diversified pasture based production model that his great-grandfather utilized. He will discuss how they de-commoditized, de-industrialized and de-centralized the multi-generational farm to a system that cooperates with nature to produce artisan products with fair, sustainable and humane production practices.

Sessions include a variety of topics such as  Holistic Pasture Management, Fruit Tree and Berry Production, and Achieving Food Justice, Food Sovereignty and Food Security in Florida, as well as best practices for harvesting and packing, organic vegetable production and how to form a Food Policy Council, to name a few. In addition, an entire educational track will focus on humane animal husbandry for both livestock producers and integrated farmers.
