Feeding the Future Dinner for Abundant Harvests Farm
“Feeding the Future” is a benefit dinner that will take place in a rustic farmhouse on location at Abundant Harvest's Farm. Participants will enjoy a 4-course organic meal and dessert prepared by Celebrity Chef Amadeus, Winner of the Food Network ExtremeMexican Showdown while relaxing to the captivating sounds of Eric Carter, jazz guitarist. A tour of the farm, as well as a take home gift of fresh organic produce, is included. All funds raised benefit the Abundant Outreach Summer Camp, which allows children from urban low-income households to attend a Farm to Table camp at no cost.
Abundant Harvest's Farm to Table camp provides kids exposure to small-scale sustainable agriculture, local food systems education, and a meaningful interaction with nature. Studies show children from low-income, urban households tend to suffer from ailments associated with poor nutrition including obesity, hyperactivity, and many other aspects of child development, and a recent Community FoodSecurity Coalition study found that exposure to growing one's own food is directly related to its consumption. By providing each camp participant with a micro scale garden to take home, our ultimate goal of increasing urban communities' food awareness and access to organic and nutritious food is met.
