Rain Henderson, a local designer with a passion for the natural food industry, gives Wine and Trucks a brand new look for 2019.

It takes a village to organize a festival as big as Wine & Trucks, and every year, we're endlessly grateful for the team of exceptionally talented, creative folks who contribute their time and energy to help make the magic happen. For 2019, we reached out to a local designer we've been watching for a while now, Rain Henderson, and asked her to bring some of her expertise to our table. We knew that with Rain's prior experience designing and illustrating for the natural food industry (and, also, our beloved local grocer Native Sun Jax), she would be an excellent fit for giving Wine and Trucks a whole new look for this November's event (and spoiler alert: we were not disappointed).

Tell us a bit about yourself and your current occupational pursuits.

My name is Rain, I’m a Florida native and graphic designer based in Jacksonville. I am currently transitioning to a new job after time spent with Native Sun; a dream job I scored in college.

What was one surprising thing you learned through your work in the natural food industry?

Learning about organics and how food shapes our environment while designing all day was pretty much the best thing that could’ve happen to me, not to mention the lovely people I was surrounded by 24/7 at Native Sun. I would like to call myself an environmental activist but am more closely related to those people that get mad about politics when drinking beers at the bar, then post stuff about being vegan on Instagram every week. I do shop local and don’t use plastic, so I’m, like, half way there.

You're vegan? How'd you decide to become vegan? And, is it hard?

At first I thought I was going vegan for the environment, and then realized I am actually obsessed with cows. That helps. I try to grow my own food in the community garden that is conveniently at the end of my street (I live in Riverside), and I'm hoping for a better harvest this year than my first go-around.

What do you do in your spare time?

When I’m not gardening or doing design stuff, I’m hopefully outside doing something active, like riding my bike or exploring somewhere new, but am probably at home with my four cats (and boyfriend) trying to organize my messy house. Occasionally I’ll open one of the 400 books I’ve been hoarding and learn something new, or cook up a new recipe I saw on Bon App.

Any new obsessions of late?

I’ve actually just recently gotten into podcasts and I am totally hooked because it's like reading (without the reading), so I can do other things at the same time! Pretty great!

What's the best part of being here in Northeast Florida, right now?

I love Jacksonville. I love how connected the community is, all the events, all vegan food (shout out, Southern Roots!), and I am super happy to get to design in the Bold City!
