Empty restaurants may become a familiar sight in the community.

As a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19, restaurants have been required to reduce indoor seating and take other steps limiting customer traffic. As a result, your favorite neighborhood eatery may soon be closed for good. A recent segment on First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross covered the challenges faced by area restaurants, and why a national movement is urging Congress to pass legislation that would benefit the industry. The pandemic threatens to permanently close 85% of independent restaurants, while millions of people are at risk of losing their jobs. Allison D’Aurizio, co-owner of 1748 Bakehouse in Springfield and Laura Jarvis, co-owner of Cool Moose Cafe in Riverside explained why the movement, #SaveRestaurants, is calling for federal aid to prevent this catastrophic impact on communities. The group behind the movement, the Independent Restaurant Coalition, calls for Congress to pass the RESTAURANTS Act. Share this video and take action now by signing the petition.
