S'Mores Board
Sitting around a campfire is an age-old ritual. Toasting marshmallows and layering them on graham crackers and chocolate to make a sweet dessert, however, is a more modern tradition. While the combination of marshmallows and chocolate dates back to the Victorian age, the s’more was introduced in 1927 by Girl Scout troop leader Loretta Scott Crew along with other simple campfire meals in a Girl Scout guidebook.
Lucky for us, winter in Florida means cool nights and no mosquitoes – the best time of the year to sit around a campfire and enjoy a make-your-own dessert party. Want to elevate your s’mores offering? Add some seasonal fruit like strawberries. Try your hand at homemade marshmallows and roll them in toasted coconut. Be sure to use a high-quality chocolate, like Makenu Chocolate in Atlantic Beach. This local chocolatier creates single-origin bars using beans from Belize, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Uganda that add a touch of gourmet flavor to the basic s’mores combination.
