Our magazine's creative team is driven by fresh ideas and local talent.

Edible Northeast Florida is published bi-monthly, with each issue focusing on a particular theme within our local food community in Northeast Florida. Our stories are celebratory, humorous, educational, investigative, and above all, local and seasonal. We choose writers, photographers and topics for each issue with the intention of balancing coverage and nurturing a wide and loyal readership. We’re particularly interested in stories that uncover interesting aspects of our local food community, and contributors who are able to synthesize information and deliver an engaging narrative.

WRITING GUIDELINES

We accept submissions and queries from writers on a rolling basis throughout the year. If you're interested in writing for us in print, please remember we develop stories well-in-advance of publication. Stories are usually assigned at least two months before publication and due a month prior.  So, pitch your ideas early, and pitch them often.

Also, be sure to request our editorial calendar before you contact us, so you know what topics we'll be covering and can make a pitch that's relevant. We publish well-researched, well-told narratives about the foodways of Northeast Florida. We love a good story, and we seek writers who write in a lively, informative, original, (sometimes) humorous and (always) interesting manner. Department stories range from 300 to 600 words. Feature stories range from 1,000 to 1,500 words.

If you have a story idea you think would work well for Edible Northeast Florida, submit a query outlining the subject and focus of your story, its approximate length, a few sentences about the article, and any relevant experience you have with the subject  matter.  Do not send us a full article on spec. If you have not written for us before, please send links to your writing or attach samples. We will confirm receipt of your query by email. Send queries to editor@edibleneflorida.com

If you want to write for Edible, but don’t have a story to pitch, send us an email outlining your experience as a writer and detailing your interest in writing for the magazine. Include links to your writing portfolio or published clips, if applicable.

PHOTO & ARTWORK SUBMISSIONS

If you're interested in freelance photo or art work with Edible, please send us a link to your online portfolio and your contact information, including name, phone number, and email address. Please do not send us an email with individual images attached or galleries of unsorted, unedited images. We will send an email to confirm receipt of your submission. If your work is a good fit for a story assignment, we'll be in touch. Send portfolios to editor@edibleneflorida.com.

COMPENSATION

Compensation ranges, depending on length and scope of each assignment. Ownership of published articles, photos and recipes reverts to the author or artist after the current issue expires, but Edible Northeast Florida retains the right to publish stories, recipes and photos online and via social media for no additional fees.
