Chef Rene Schiegg

Mr. Rene H. Schiegg’s illustrious career spanned over 50 years in the hospitality industry. A native of Switzerland, he was a well-traveled connoisseur and an award-winning chef. Mr. Schiegg was born in Zurich and served his apprenticeship in Bern. After serving as an executive chef in Bermuda, Mr. Schiegg moved to the United States. He was a member of the U.S. Culinary Olympic team in 1976, earning two gold medals and a special award. Among his other many recognitions, Mr. Schiegg won the grand prize at the International Association of Holiday Inns’ culinary competition - beating out 1,800 hotels in the system. Before he retired, Mr. Schiegg was the general manager of the Historic Hilton Bayfront Hotel in St. Augustine. He holds the rank of Grand Commandeur in La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs - an international gastronomic society founded in Paris in 1950. Mr. Schiegg resided in Ponte Vedra Beach with his wife Esther, also a native of Switzerland. Mr. Schiegg passed away in August 2021.
