Flavored Simple Syrups
“Simple syrup.” With a name like that, how hard can it be to mix up a batch of this essential craft cocktail ingredient? The process isn’t that complicated: combine one part water with one part sugar and heat until the sugar is dissolved. But that’s just the starting point for inventive mixologists. The fun part comes when you mix in fruit, herbs, spices and flavors to create tasty additions to any kind of drink.
To get you started on your road to simply delicious syrups, we chatted with Ashley Floyd of Odd Birds in St. Augustine who offered several flavor pairings along with ways to use them in cocktails. Once you’ve mastered these easy combinations, add the syrups to seltzer for homemade sodas, coffee, lemonade or any beverage for a tasteful upgrade.
