1. Collect water from washing fruits and vegetables

When you wash fruits and vegetables in the sink, place a large bowl or pot to collect the water and use it on indoor or outdoor plants.

2. Use less water when boiling food

Fill the pot just enough to cover potatoes or pasta when cooking.

3. Reuse pasta water

Don’t pour that cooking water down the drain! Save it to use in pasta sauce, soups or stews, as the starchy water can thicken and add flavor to the dish.

4. Reuse vegetable cooking water

After boiling or steaming vegetables, save the water and use it as stock for soups, stews, gravies and sauces, or to cook rice. Be sure vegetables are cleaned well before cooking.

5. Save water used to boil eggs

This is a great calcium boost for garden plants.

6. Save leftover drinking water and ice

Keep a jar by the sink for leftover water or ice to use in the garden or on house plants.
