Asian Culinary Influences in Northeast Florida
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Americans hailing from countries across the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. Besides their many other influences, certainly their culinary impact can be seen (and tasted) across Northeast Florida. Jacksonville, home to the state’s largest Filipino population with over 13,000 residents, has benefitted from the evolving influence of Filipino chefs, as interest and demand grows for traditional dishes such as lumpia and much more. Want a taste of Filipino food? Check out the grand opening of Lola's Food Truck this weekend.
Other Asian cuisine abounds in our region, with options such as Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean and Polynesian fare. Culinary influences are a delicious way to learn about global cultures and Beach Boulevard is a great place to start, with more than 10 miles of international eats to sample. But don't take our word for it - head out on a gastronomic adventure and see for yourself.
